Confederate Flag and Eagle Pewter Belt Buckle
The Confederate Flag and Eagle belt buckle is greatly detailed in fine pewter with enameling of the Confederate Flag.
The Confederate Flag went through many changes during the Civil War form the Bonnie Blue to the Stars and Bars then to the Stainless Banner only to end with the Last Confederate Flag. Out of these flags though the most recognizable flag of the south was the Confederate Battle Flag, which was carried by soldiers on to the battlefield during the Civil War. Sadly though this flag was never officially recognized by the Confederate Government even though the vast majority of the southern population felt it best represented the "cause". Though on May 1, 1863 the second confederate flag was adopted which placed the battle flag onto a white field naming it the Stainless Banner. The confederate flag has appeared on most southern state flags one time or another but only Mississippi currently still uses the Battle Flag as part of their state flag.
Due to the hit TV show Dukes of Hazzard the Confederate Battle Flag is the most recognizable flag to come out of the south during the Civil War due to it being painted on the hood of the 1969 Dodge Charger "General Lee" in the TV series.
The American Bald Eagle is the United States National Emblem. Before it was officially declared by the Second Continental Congress on June 20, 1782, it was greatly debated over by our founding fathers. Ben Franklin thought the Bald Eagle was of "Bad Moral Character" and wasn't fit to be our Nations Symbol, he preferred the Wild Turkey and considered it a much more noble species. In the end the uniqueness of the Bald Eagle solely being found in North America helped to turn the founding fathers thoughts towards it. In 1789 George Washington became our Nations First President and the Bald Eagle became our National Bird.
Together the Confederate Battle Flag and the Eagle where used as the navy jack at sea from 1863 onwards.
