* 1861: after the Unification of Italy, the Academy went through a period of crisis due to the advent of photography and the general refusal to copy the works of the past.
* 1863: The Archaeological Museum is posted.
* 1882: the management of the Pinacoteca di Brera is made autonomous.
* 1891: exposures become three-year, while the architectural culture makes its own teaching and founded the School of Architecture
* 1897-1914: Camillo Boito is president of the Academy and has among its students Luca Beltrami.
* 1900: the Pinacoteca di Brera acquires the administration of collection of modern painting.
* 1923: the reform of the school promoted by Giovanni Gentile, the Academy is set up next to the Art School. In the same year the school of sculpture was held by Adolfo Wildt (which happen Francesco Messina and Marino Marini), which will have among his students two of the greatest artistic renewal of the Milanese in the following years: Lucio Fontana and Fausto Melotti, while Ropes will be established the chair of Fresco.
* 1931: the School of Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano is transferred.
* 1946: After World War II, the Academy re-opens under the direction of Aldo Carpi, with Guido Ballo as a professor of art history, alongside the masters of sculpture and Alik Cavaliere Andrea Cascella, painting Mauro Reggiani, Domenico Cantatore, Dominic Pompeo Borra and purified.
